South East County Leaders launched the Battle for the South East yesterday in a bid to ensure sustainable communities are created in the region. Over the next 20 years, its members want no more than 28,900 new homes a year – 578,000 in total – more affordable homes for young people and essential workers, and adequate infrastructures. A government-appointed panel begins its examination of the counties' South East Plan on 28 November before making recommendations about how many new houses should be built.
