Environment secretary, Caroline Spelman, has become the latest government minister to perform a policy U-turn, by confirming she no longer plans to sell off England's publicly-owned woods and forests.

The decision, formally confirmed on 5 July, follows severe criticism of the plan by campaign groups and conservationists.
