The cost to councils of placing homeless families in B&Bs has shot up by a quarter, with spending by London boroughs more than doubling, according to official figures.

Government data showed net spending on B&Bs by local authorities in England increased by 26% from £371m in 2024-25 to £467m in 2025-26.
