The continued success of Newcastle International Airport has earned the five local authorities in Tyne and Wear an £80m windfall. South Tyneside MBC's executive director of resources and regeneration, David Slater, said the cash would be divided between the five councils, which have a 51% stake in the airport. And South Tyneside Council's deputy leader, Iain Malcolm, added: ‘Much of the success of Newcastle airport is due to the effective management of the business by its operational team.'
