Kirklees MBC has confirmed plans for a new £36m sports centre, and a partnership with supermarket retailer Tesco. The high street giant will build a store on the site of the current centre, and the deal will help fund the new development, which will have two pools, two sports halls, squash and martial arts facilities and a gym. Council leader, Mehboob Khan, said: ‘This is a prominent location with excellent transport and pedestrian links. The current sports centre is outdated, has poor disabled access, and many people are put off by the changing rooms.'
