Reducing workforce numbers through compulsory redundancies will often seem the most obvious way to make significant and immediate savings. However, redundancies on any scale carry risk and attract statutory duties to consult.

Without careful consideration and planning, councils could end up incurring hefty unforeseen costs through consequential Employment Tribunal claims.
