Staffordshire CC chief executive, Ron Hilton, is to retire after three years in the post. Mr Hilton will be 64 by the time he leaves next May – making him one of the oldest chief executives in the country. He told The MJ he was ‘always impressed by the quality' of staff he worked with at Staffordshire, and that the authority was ‘very positive', with a lot of energy. In the past three years, the council has taken £59m out of the budget and lost 3000 staff. However, Mr Hilton said he had enjoyed his time, adding: ‘The challenge is fine, but I have enjoyed the achievements more.' He joined the council in 2001 as corporate director of development services, before being promoted to deputy chief executive in 2007. Previously, Mr Hilton worked for Worcester City Council and Stockport MBC.
