The news that council chief executives' salaries are failing to keep pace with inflation will only heighten the risk of a notable exodus of talent and experience from the top job, says Paul Marinko.

This is no time to risk a talent exodus at the top of councils

Many in local government already feel they are getting a raw deal, with financial settlements bearing no resemblance to the pressures and requirements councils are facing.
