Consumers face greater risk from counterfeit and dangerous goods, if trading standards services continue to suffer under government cuts, Unison warned this week.

Research by the local government trade union suggests spending on trading standards services per head has fallen by 11% over two years, resulting in 743 job losses, or 15% of the workforce. This had lead to a 29% drop in prosecutions, the union claimed.
