You're tired. It's been a long day and the train journey hasn't exactly been what you were expecting.Frankly, we've all been there. Diary's collective heart went out to the new chairman of the Local Government Association, Cllr Gary Porter, last week when he vented his frustrations at Network Rail by describing Doncaster railway station as the ‘worst station with the rudest, least helpful staff'. Now Diary has – as the old saying goes – been around the old block a few times, and knows Doncaster railway station well and would like to defend its honour in this particular instance There are far worse places to end up, such as Sleaford railway station, which as the gateway to the delightful cathedral city of Lincoln and Grimsby. Sleaford is not so much a railway station, as a lesson in existential angst. It's also in the middle of no-where to boot. Diary also has less-than-fond memories of Wolverhampton and the old Birmingham New Street station. On the other hand, we will always be rather fond of Milton Keynes railway station, which famously doubled for New York in Superman 4: The Quest For Peace...
