Strategic Director (Community) £73,584 to £85,521

Strategic Director (Community) £73,584 to £85,521

Very rarely is a Strategic Director role advertised that has a diverse remit covering the strategic leadership of a wide range of both operational and corporate services. You may just have found your ideal next career step.

The whole senior management team at Stevenage Borough Council works closely together in an environment where you can expect to give and receive support and challenge, where good ideas and innovative thinking are positively encouraged and where things are very seldom dull. As a council we like to be known for taking on new challenges, for punching above our weight and for not being afraid to go the extra mile for our community.

As a Council steeped in the co-operative ethos we have a strong tradition of working with the community to meet their changing needs; engagement and partnership working are critical tools that allow us to deliver, support and lobby for relevant service provision. This means that as a director you will need to be able to work both strategically and operationally and critically to have the key skill of being able to translate strategy into meaningful action.

The Community directorate is the largest within the council and you will lead half the Council's workforce, 350 staff, across a diverse portfolio of services including Housing, Leisure, Environmental Health, Corporate Policy, Communications, Children's Services, Community Safety and Human Resources.

In addition, as a member of the Strategic Management Board you will influence the strategic direction of the authority and will require an acute understanding of how to manage people coupled with the emotional intelligence required to get the best from a committed workforce across the organisation.

To discover more about this exciting opportunity, please discuss the post in confidence with Jon Houlihan of GatenbySanderson on 0121 644 5700 or visit our dedicated recruitment website.

Closing date for applications: 12th May 2013.
