Newcastle City Council has vowed to hand unpaid wages from this week's public sector pensions strike to charity.

The local authority has estimated up to £300,000 could be raised, depending on the number of people who joined the strike, and rather than bank the cash, it will instead be given to the Newcastle Fund, which supports good causes across the city.
