Communities secretary, Hazel Blears, has given the green light to plans by 13 sub-regions across the country to boost jobs. Speaking today at the Core Cities Summit in Nottingham, Ms Blears said the sub-regions would be allowed new powers to promote prosperity and development. Councils would be given more controls to work together in areas such as regeneration, jobs, housing and environmental protection. ‘By strengthening city regions and giving all local councils a new duty to promote jobs and tackle worklessness we are giving local leaders real tools to spread prosperity and improve quality of life for all,' she said.
