Long-standing Cheshire Labour councillor, Derek Bateman, died suddenly last weekend, at the age of 62.

Cllr Bateman, who had spent almost 40 years in local politics, is believed to have had a heart attack. He was a councillor on Ellesmere Port BC, then deputy leader and leader of the former Cheshire CC, and more recently, leader of the Labour group on Cheshire West and Chester Council.
