The Whitehall media machine has a new chief at the helm. Downing Street confirmed the appointment last week of Matt Tee as new permanent secretary for government communication. He takes over from Howell James, who left in June. Mr Tee is currently chief executive of NHS Direct, and was previously director general of communications at the Department of Health. Prior to that he was director of news at the Department of Trade and Industry. Cabinet secretary Sir Gus O'Donnell said: ‘Effective communication is central to the delivery of government policy.'
