Key parish and town council support groups have presented to ministers plans to establish a sector-led body to take over responsibilities from the Audit Commission, when it is disbanded.

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) and Society of London Council Clerks (SLCC) suggest creating a self-financing body to procure and appoint audit services to smaller local public bodies, on a voluntary basis.
