Surrey CC this week outlined plans to save £25m over the next financial year, through tighter deals with contractors.

In 2011/12, the authority achieved savings of £30m from new contracts. This included a road maintenance and improvement deal with May Gurney, which saves £4.1m a year compared with previous arrangements.
