Figures released this week have revealed ‘sustained improvement' in services provided by Welsh councils. But local government minister, Brian Gibbons, warned local authorities still needed to do more to close an ‘unacceptable range' of performance between councils. The statistical bulletin from the Local Government Data Unit shows there has been an improvement in 72% of the 95 indicators comparable with last year, with 24% showing a drop or maintaining current performance. Dr Gibbons said the data demonstrated a record overall improvement, but the range of performance from best to worst in some service areas was still too high.
