As the CLG and LGA leap in to help struggling councils in this time of financial need, it appears that one borough council is not so appreciative. Tamworth BC has issued a statement claiming it did not ask for help over problems arising from deposits with failed Icelandic banks. The statement claims: ‘The council had no prior knowledge of this action, and has not asked for any assistance beyond that required to retrieve monies owed to it. The council confirms it has no major immediate financial problems and is at a loss to understand why it has been singled out for such "support".' While it will work with the LGA, Tamworth claimed: ‘There are sufficient resources to cover the council's financial commitments.'
