Councils in Wales and their partners must make better use of data to focus support and education services to those learners in greatest need. Education inspector Estyn has investigated the impact of data used by local authorities, and made key recommendations. Information is not always used consistently and effectively to plan services for children and young people at a strategic level to target support on learners in greatest need. Dr Bill Maxwell, HM chief inspector of education and training in Wales, said: ‘The Welsh Assembly Government should provide leadership and resources in those areas where data is unavailable.'
