Council tax benefit is to be rebranded as a ‘rebate' to encourage pensioners to claim the money to which they are entitled. The move comes after pressure from the Royal British Legion who argued some older people don't like to be seen as ‘claiming a benefit'. Work and pensions secretary Yvette Cooper said changing the name made it clearer that pensioners were entitled to the money rather than seeing it as a separate benefit. It has not yet been confirmed when the change will come into force.
