A commission launched by five London boroughs has kicked up a stink over plans by Thames Water to build a £3.6bn ‘super-sewer'.

Proposals to upgrade the Victorian system envisage construction of a tunnel 75 metres beneath the river along a 20-mile stretch of the Thames, from Acton in west London to Abbey Mills, close to the Olympic Park in the Lee Valley.
