The Treasury has appointed Jon Thompson as head of the Government Finance Profession. He will combine this post with his current role as director general corporate services at the Department for Children, Schools and Families. A former director of finance and resources at North Somerset Council, Mr Thompson's career has also included senior positions at insurance company Eagle Star and consultant Ernst and Young. He was also finance director at Ofsted until 2006, when he joined the-then Department for Education and Skills. Mr Thompson is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and the Chartered Institute of Management. He is married with three sons.
