Portsmouth City Council made £6.2m in savings over the past financial year, by delivering services more efficiently and improving its collection of council tax. The amount of money owed by council taxpayers has reduced for the second year running. Boosting collection rates is a key target for councils which has become even more important, due to the drop in revenues caused by the downturn.
