Free or subsidised services may be slashed, depending on the Comprehensive Spending Review, according to the Local Government Association. A tight CSR would mean ‘real difficulties' for councils, according to LGA chairman Sir Simon Milton. In a letter to council leaders, he warned that if next month's CSR did not deliver in preventative services for the growing numbers of elderly people in England, councils must have ‘frank' discussions with residents about what care services could be delivered for free.
