A Conservative government would give housing tenants the chance to house-swap around the country, shadow housing minister Grant Shapps has announced. In a speech to the National Housing Federation, Mr Shapps also announced the creation of an industry forum designed to find solutions to the lack of mobility in social housing – and the resulting lack of mobility in labour. The policy was initially outlined in a Green Paper, Strong Foundations, earlier this year. Mr Shapps told the conference: ‘I'm pleased to be able to announce today that your leaders from the social and affordable housing world have agreed to work with us to find new ways to inject housing mobility into the sector.'
