Top Conservative local and national leaders have filled the latest pamphlet from the SOLACE Foundation Imprint to coincide with their annual conference. The article authors range from Lord Heseltine, who calls for more powers to city mayors, to David Curry's challenge that councils must receive more fund-raising powers. The SFI pamphlet, Conservatism, change and local governance, is edited by Mike Bennett, SOLACE deputy director, and Christina Dykes, political director (Conservative) for the Leadership Centre for Local Government. Ms Dykes says David Cameron needs to tackle ‘the thorny problem of social cohesion' to which, she says, the party has given too little attention.
