Portsmouth City Council leader, Gerald Vernon-Jackson, has met with the chairman of Portsmouth magistrates and asked for a tougher stance on dog foul not cleared up by owners.

Cllr Vernon-Jackson has written to justice secretary, Kenneth Clarke, to consider sentencing policy. He said it was ‘not logical' that a maximum fine of someone on benefits could only get a maximum £50 fine.
