London is certain to have another polling day this year, when voters will decide on another directly-elected mayor. In the final stage of a long election night, voters in Tower Hamlets LBC confirmed they wanted a directly-elected mayor for their borough. Speculation is mounting about potential candidates, including whether controversial leader of the Respect party, George Galloway, who lost his Westminster seat in the general election, will stand. Chief executive, Kevan Collins, told The MJ: ‘It's a very important moment for people here. ‘We will definitely be holding a vote in October and we're looking forward to it.'
