New research by the Taxpayers' Alliance (TPA) has claimed the number of middle managers at councils in the Midlands has continued to rise, despite continued public sector cuts.

The campaign group said the total wage bill for staff receiving more than £50,000 a year in packages had risen by 14% since 2009-10, and currently stood at £465m.
