Loughborough's leaders are smarting after losing their bid to host British athletes for the 2012 London Olympics. Instead, the army town of Aldershot is expected to be named as the base for Team GB. Charnwood BC leader, Richard Shepherd, was extremely disappointed by the decision. He said: ‘It is a surprise – and not the news we were hoping for. ‘It would have been a great honour for the university and the whole borough to have hosted Team GB. The university would have been a very worthy venue.'
