The troubled history of Bournemouth Council's artificial 'barrier reef' took another turn this week, when the authority revealed the company which built the structure has ceased trading.

The troubled history of Bournemouth Council's artificial ‘barrier reef' took another turn this week, when the authority revealed the company which built the structure has ceased trading.

The reef has been out of action since May 2011, after a boat propeller damaged it. Now, the authority has learned that the New Zealand-based firm which built the reef, ASR, has stopped trading and gone into liquidation.
