Aberdeenshire councillors are being urged to bring in major changes to decision-making at the authority, in the wake of the Trump golf development debacle. The council's chief executive, Alan Campbell, is recommending allowing the director of planning and environmental services to determine whether an application is of regional or national importance, after consultation with leaders of the political groups on the council and the chief executive. The full council would then have the final vote. It follows the Scottish Government's decision last year to ‘call in' controversial plans by US tycoon Donald Trump to build a £1bn golf resort in the area, after the council's infrastructure services committee threw out the application.
