Local government union leaders have called for an urgent meeting with communities secretary, Hazel Blears, to avert strike action over pay. At joint talks last month, council bosses failed to reach a decision over the 2% pay offer, telling the unions they needed more time to ‘weigh up the consequences' of improving the offer. Last week, they told union leaders they needed more time to arrive at a decision. ‘We are sick to death of council leaders unable to make up their minds what to do about their workers pay,' said GMB national secretary for local government, Brian Strutton.
