A leading public service trade union has warned the loss of 1,000 jobs, following the sale of troubled airline bmi, will be a ‘body blow to local economies'.

Prospect, which also represents engineers at regional airports in the east Midlands, Birmingham, Belfast, Glasgow and Edinburgh – as well as London Heathrow – warned the loss of local bmi jobs could hinder economic recoveries in those areas.
