Britain is set for a wave of summer strikes, as local government workers gear up for industrial action. The GMB union is due to meet with its members today to discuss the government pay offer. Unison, the biggest public sector union, and Unite, will begin balloting members over possible strikes in early July. Unite national officer, Peter Allenson, said: ‘Local government employers must recognise that local government workers are struggling with soaring energy and food costs. This pay offer is a pay cut – and it's totally unacceptable.'
