Research from six local authority universal credit pilot projects reveals most claimants would be able to manage their money – including monthly rent payments to landlords.

Early findings from the Department for Work and Pensions' demonstration projects – run by Oxford City Council, Southwark LBC, Shropshire Council, Wakefield City Council, Torfaen CBC and Edinburgh City Council – indicate more than half of social housing tenants feel confident receiving their housing benefit (HB) payments directly into their bank account. One-quarter (24%) of tenants said they would need support if HB was paid directly.
