The former growth advisor to US president Barack Obama has praised the ‘rich debate about devolution that is happening in Britain'.

Bruce Katz, whose influential book, The Metropolitan Revolution, inspired the current trend for directly-elected ‘metro mayors, made the comments on the website of the influential Brookings Institute think-tank, of which he is vice president.
