The National Consumer Council has warned that although the voluntary sector plays a key role in delivering public services, it may not always offer the best solution for consumers. The study, Delivering public services: Service-users' experiences of the third sector, highlights differences between the voluntary, public and the private sector delivery of services, and suggests the quality people value most is being treated with dignity and respect by staff. NCC chief executive, Ed Mayor, says: ‘The third sector does well, but our research scotches the notion that it will always be better.'
