Leeds City Council is backing a scheme to boost volunteering. The council is launching a ‘Compact for Leeds' kitemark for local organisations which meet its volunteering criteria, and has already designated 2010 as Leeds Year of Volunteering. Cllr Lucinda Yeadon, executive board member with responsibility for the campaign, said: ‘We estimate that the value of volunteering in Leeds is worth in the region of £39.5m each year, so it is clearly hugely important to our city, and we want to do everything we can to support the people who do it.'
