Software and IT service supplier Civica has bought VT Software Solutions (VTSS) for £3m. Civica purchased VTSS, which has contracts with 200 local authorities and housing associations, from the VT Group. VTSS specialises in systems to manage housing repairs and fleet management systems. As part of the deal, Civica has also started a partnership with the VT Group, which will concentrate on defence and emergency services markets. ‘I am delighted to welcome VTSS to the Civica Group,' said chief executive, Simon Downing. ‘The VTSS customer base, skills and product set are complementary to our existing business offerings and strengthen our position in core markets. ‘I also look forward to working with the VT Group to expand our position in the defence market.' VT Group chairman, Michael Jeffries, said: ‘We have conducted a comprehensive business review of our vehicle support acquisitions and decided that Software Solutions was not aligned with our core business. ‘However, the fit with Civica is good, and we will continue to work closely with its staff to deliver services to joint customers, such as the Ministry of Defence and the Metropolitan Police. ‘We also hope to address further opportunities together in future.' Civica supplies software to 89% of the councils in the UK. It also offers systems to other local authorities around the world, including in Australia, New Zealand and the US. Every year, its systems are used to manage £4bn of local revenue and 200m library loans. Last month, it signed a five-year deal with Hampshire CC to supply its Spydus library management systems. In March 2006, Civica signed a £1.1m deal with Lambeth LBC to standardise 5,000 workstations and streamline software.
