Wakefield MDC has warned it will oppose government's plans to establish eco towns in the area, but stressed that it is still in favour of new housing, if funding is available for key infrastructure. Deputy council leader, Cllr Denise Jeffery, said: ‘We want to express our concerns in the strongest-possible terms. The consultation with local authorities on eco towns has been a token gesture – it's a case of too little too late.'
