Scotland's secretary for finance, John Swinney, has welcomed news that a number of Scottish councils will freeze council tax. The councils, which have already announced their plans to peg council tax, including Glasgow, Falkirk and Shetland, will receive a share of £70m as set out in the local government settlement last year. ‘This is welcoming news for taxpayers across Scotland who have borne unacceptable and punishing rises in the council tax over recent years,' said Mr Swinney.
