Local fire brigade and police services face the loss of sophisticated detection methods because of ‘flawed plans' to close the Forensic Science Service, a leading Whitehall union has claimed.
Prospect – the trade union representing scientists, managers and other specialist Whitehall professionals – has warned advanced methods of detection used in the investigation of fires and shootings could be lost because of moves to shut the state-owned firm.
