Vale of Glamorgan council has been ordered to repay £2.5m to the Welsh Assembly government over five years, after scrapping a development scheme for which it had already received state finance. Officials at the council had asked to repay the debt over 15-20 years, but Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones insisted on a shorter timetable. Vale of Glamorgan scrapped the plan for a local pedestrian and cycle link after finance personnel discovered an £8m funding shortfall.
