Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly CBCs have announced plans to become the first local authorities in Wales to merge their social services departments.

Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly CBCs have announced plans to become the first local authorities in Wales to merge their social services departments.

A report will go before Blaenau Gwent's cabinet this week, which will look at proposals to integrate the two departments by 2014. Caerphilly's cabinet will discuss a similar report next month. The plan is to merge back office functions this year, and adult and children's services in 2012/13.
