Councils in Wales are to receive £32m this year to help meet tough Welsh Assembly Government recycling and composting targets. Environment minister, Carwyn Jones, said: ‘The assembly government wants recycling, reusing and composting to become part of everyday life and as such, we are providing the funds for local authorities to make it possible.’ The Welsh Assembly wants councils to recycle and compost 25% of its residents’ waste in 2006-07, rising to 40% by 2010. At present, the council recycles and composts a total of 19.4% of its waste.
