A regional assembly chairman has warned councils not to ‘walk away from the table', after West Sussex CC announced it was quitting the quango. South East England Regional Assembly (SEERA) chairman, Keith Mitchell, expressed disappointment at West Sussex CC's decision to resign on 31 March 2009, instead of waiting until 2010, when it was due to be abolished. He said: ‘The transfer of powers may never happen. I would caution other councils to wait and see, and retain their seat at the table.'
