Senior Westminster City Council figures have taken over key posts at the GLA, to control London's housing and regeneration. Former Westminster City Council chief executive, Peter Rogers, looks set to take over the reins of the London Development Agency (LDA), as Boris Johnson ushers in a new era at City Hall. The newly-elected London mayor announced last week he had asked the chair of the LDA board, Mary Reilly, and chief executive, Manny Lewis, to both stand down. Mr Johnson has now recommended the appointment of Mr Rogers as interim chief executive, and Harvey McGrath as interim chair. An LDA spokesman said the board would consider the appointments in due course, but did not know when it was meeting. ‘Mr Rogers has a proven track record of delivering in Westminster, and his experience in reducing costs and implementing transparency is exactly what the LDA needs to start delivering for taxpayers, with immediate effect,' said Mr Johnson. Mr Rogers is not the first Westminster City Council-related appointment made by Mr Johnson in the last week. Last week, he announced that former council leader and former MJ columnist, Sir Simon Milton, had been hired as a senior adviser on planning. Mr Johnson has promised a closer and more open working relationship with the London boroughs after a meeting with London Councils chairman, Merrick Cockell.
