Westminster City Council has vowed to cut its management team and staff by 2011. It is planning to have 100 fewer managers and 100 fewer support staff , in time for the Olympics. The move is expected to save the council £10m over the next year, and £30m over the next three. Westminster City Council's chief executive, Mike More, said: ‘The council will become less hierarchical with fewer managers by 2011, most of whom will go through natural turnover.' By 2009, the council will have a smaller executive board of five group directors, the chief executive and deputy chief executive. This will replace the current corporate management board of 20 directors. The council also plans to unify its policy, finance, performance, project management and procurement functions, in an effort to tackle duplication. This will also mean customers can visit one building, instead of five, to get a job done. Mr More added: ‘These changes will bring stronger direction, greater performance, managers who are closer to services, more cross-departmental working and more accountability.'
